On August 26, 2026, massive flooding occurred in northern Nepal (near the border with China’s Tibet Autonomous Region). Vast amounts of water and sediment surged into villages in Raswa District and elsewhere, causing extensive damage not only to homes but also to roads, bridges, and essential infrastructure such as power, water, and communications systems. Numerous deaths and missing persons have been reported, and rescue and search operations are continuing despite difficulties in delivering relief supplies due to cut-off access.
We extend our heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by this disaster.
As the situation is still unfolding and needs are changing by the minute, the Certified NPO ASHA is launching emergency relief efforts in collaboration with its local partner, the GU Memorial Foundation. Why ASHA is Providing Support
Since our founding in 2015, ASHA has been deeply supported by local communities and partners in Nepal. Driven by a strong desire to “support the affected areas alongside trusted partners in the wake of this unprecedented disaster,” we launched this project.
During a disaster, the most critical—and most difficult—task is “delivering the aid that is truly needed to the affected areas without delay.” Therefore, ASHA is providing full support for the activities of our local partner, the “GU Memorial Foundation” (Representatives: Sabitri Shrestha and Ganesh), with whom we have worked side by side on the ground for many years. Mr. Ganesh and his team, who have an in-depth understanding of the situation on the ground, maintain close daily collaboration with local residents, municipal authorities, and medical professionals, enabling them to provide precise assistance tailored to the rapidly changing needs of the disaster-stricken areas.
Our role is to receive the warm generosity of the people of Japan and deliver it responsibly and as quickly as possible to our frontline partners who are currently stepping up to help disaster victims on the ground. We sincerely ask for your cooperation to support our valued partners, with whom we have walked side by side in Nepal for many years, and to deliver the aid that disaster victims truly need.
How Donations Are Used
We will carefully utilize the donations we receive from you to ensure that necessary support reaches disaster victims as quickly as possible.

Immediately after a disaster, conditions and needs change by the minute. Therefore, we will maintain constant communication with the affected areas and respond flexibly to provide the support that is most urgently needed at any given time. We will provide updates on the details of our support and progress on this page, our website, and social media as they become available. Once the relief efforts are complete, we will issue a report detailing the implementation of our efforts along with a breakdown of how the donations were used.

The Ganesh Ujan (GU) Memorial Foundation is a non-political, non-profit social organization established in memory of Ganesh Kumar Shrestha and Ujan (Bhuwan) Kumar Shrestha, who lost their lives in the line of duty while living in Pokali VDC, Okhaldhunga District. In partnership with the Social Welfare Council, the foundation implements programs in areas such as education, health, sports, and social welfare to support the development of children in rural areas of Nepal, collaborating with various domestic and international organizations.
About ASHA
ASHA, a Certified NPO, is an international cooperation organization active in Nepal and Japan, working toward a “world where everyone can live in good health (a system where people can rely on medical care).” It was founded by Dr. Sakya Sandip and Yoshifumi Nin in the wake of the 2015 Nepal earthquake. Our activities are driven primarily by approximately 100 pro bono volunteers—including medical professionals such as doctors, pharmacists, and nurses, as well as engineers and students—who contribute their specialized skills.
What we value most is not simply “giving” one-sided aid from the outside, but rather working together with local people and partners to develop sustainable systems tailored to the needs of each community. We will uphold this approach in this emergency relief effort as well, listening closely to the voices and needs of the local community to deliver the necessary support to those affected by the disaster.

ASHA’s Activities
Building a System for Reliable Access to Healthcare
We are working to establish a system that ensures access to healthcare even in areas far from medical facilities by utilizing home visits by community health workers, the “ASHAConnect” medical consultation app, and the “NepalEHR” electronic health record system.
Health Education for Middle School Students
We provide education on basic health knowledge and first aid to middle school students in the project areas. By empowering residents to acquire accurate knowledge and skills themselves, we aim to improve health literacy.
Promoting Neonatal Resuscitation Training
In collaboration with the Nepal Pediatric Society, we are promoting the development of “Neonatal Resuscitation” guidelines tailored to Nepal’s healthcare settings and the widespread adoption of practical training. To save as many babies’ lives as possible, we aim to spread these life-saving techniques nationwide.
Health Monitoring for the Elderly by College Students
Leveraging the “community health worker” system we have been developing in Nepal, we are working to establish a system where college students and local seniors interact regularly to monitor the seniors’ health.
